Present Continuous and Present Simple

Present Continuous :

- something that is happening now at the time of speaking.

 - Its form is ‘am/is/are + verb + ing’.

Verbs which are not used in present continuous (I am + ‘ing’):

Forget	Taste	Smell

Present Simple:

 - The things that are true in general or always,

 - Things that happen sometimes or all the time

-  or something that is fixed in the future.

-  Its form is the ‘base’ form of the verb.

But the third person takes -s/.

They	read	work	like
He	reads	works	likes
She	reads	works	likes
It	reads	works	likes

Examples of Present Continuous and Present Simple:

• Denise is reading a book. He reads a lot.
• She is watching Television. She loves movies.
• They are having their dinner now. They usually eat late at night.  
• He plays guitar very well but he is playing piano tonight.
